I think ...bernarda,

Thanks for all the suggestions. I think I'm mostly interested in the Spanish Civil War at the moment. Although since the events that I'm interested in learning more about were ultimately driven by the people living there, I do have some interest in learning about earlier conditions that helped shape their outlook.

sh,

Hmm, for some reason I had thought that you had read Zinn's book before. But yeah, you should definitely read it. And I will definitely be writing about the Spanish Civil War/Revolution in future posts =)

beepbeep,

Yes, unfortunately I did. I had started a post about my political deconversion about a month ago, but I had to stop because it was a little too embarrassing and painful. I might pick it up and try to grind through the rest sometime soon though.

breakerslion,

Totally understand. Don't want to write a new post before the old one gets its time in the spotlight!Deltahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15708796218860983185noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12177833.post-1157672172576397182006-09-07T16:36:00.000-07:002006-09-07T16:36:00.000-07:00You are far more serious than I am at present, in ...You are far more serious than I am at present, in choosing reading matter. I guess someone has to be. I'll play along, but I want to give my last post a chance to simmer for a few days.breakerslionhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14327290369084118043noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12177833.post-1157644546336726382006-09-07T08:55:00.000-07:002006-09-07T08:55:00.000-07:00On the Spanish Civil War, you might also be intere...On the Spanish Civil War, you might also be interested in the novel "Man's Hope" by André Malraux.

For a history, there is Gabriel Jackson's "Spanish Republic and Civil War, 1931-1939. I don't anticipate for it to radically change my life but I do want to read it.

"An Introduction to Quantum Field Theory" for the desert island is almost as "bad" as Mookie's choice. :-)

So liberals are expected to "win"? That's not too bad. I just don't know how realistic that is.

It does look like you are very interested in Spanish Civil war and related topics. I don't know much about it, but I will be glad to read any bits of information you might offer on this subject in your future posts.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12177833.post-1157543452008137212006-09-06T04:50:00.000-07:002006-09-06T04:50:00.000-07:00Judging by your list, I think you would also like ...Judging by your list, I think you would also like "The People's History of the American Revolution" by Ray Raphael. It is part of a series proposed by Howard Zinn.

It is not clear if you are just interested in the Spanish Civil War or Spain in general. But have you read the great Spanish 19th century Spanish writer Benito Perez Galdos? He is described as the Spanish Balzac. Unfortunately hard to find English translations nowadays, but it you read Spanish, go for it.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
