Richard Dawkins on the Colbert Report

Richard Dawkins was on the Colbert Report recently promoting his new book The God Delusion. When I first checked last night it was #2 on Amazon's bestseller list, and it's currently at #3. I'm assuming that it reached the top mark the first day after he appeared on the Colbert Report.

It's nice to see atheists and their books being promoted on shows with large audiences. Stephen Colbert and his show continue to play their part in helping to better our country and to give hope for future change. While being an atheist doesn't imply that one's views and actions are going to be progressive, freeing oneself from corrupt and authoritarian religious structures and beliefs is the first step. I personally don't read atheist books anymore, as it seems like a waste of time to read about arguments against something that's comparable to unicorns, but I hope that it makes a positive impact in the lives of those who have and will buy Dawkins' book.

I saw that, too. It was one of the few interviews where Colbert was stumped and couldn't make some inane comeback.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention.

Thank you for the video. I've heard about this interview but never got around to find it and watch it. It's very difficult to make any coherent points in such format but I think Dawkins managed to get at least a few words in there.

Yeah I agree it's a bit pointless hearing these guys "preach to the choir", but I nonetheless enjoyed reading Sam Harris's Letter to a Christian Nation. As others have said, it keeps my "ammo" against religious fanatics fresh in mind.

Unrelatedly, I was recalling one Halloween during my childhood when I received Christian religious tracts instead of candy. You know, about Jesus and how he came to save the world. Now I'm wondering what sort of secular "tracts" I could hand out to kids, or perhaps just a decoration on the porch or something on the door. Any suggestions?!?

d,

There are "nontracts" put out by the Freedom from Relgion Foundation that you could hand out. You can find them here, although it's too late to order them for this year I suppose. You could also create some tracts for FSM =)

Can't think of a great decoration at the moment, but if I do I'll let you know.
